“A heartfelt message from a proud mother whose son serves in the combat ’Nahal’ Brigade. This letter shares her deep pride, whilst the challenges of living far away from her son in another country…”

Dear Uri,

Time has flown by so quickly since you enlisted into the IDF. I can hardly believe how fast your training has passed and even reflecting on how much you’ve grown and achieved in such a short time is extremely inspiring. As your mother, living far away from you in another country is incredibly challenging at times, but my heart overflows with pride at the man you’ve become and the choices you’ve made.  The moment that truly solidified everything for me was when we attended your ‘Nahal’ brigade ceremony, after your eight months of training and you finally received your green beret that was well deserved for. Of course, I felt immense pride the first day you became a soldier, but standing there in that moment, I’ve never felt prouder to be your mother.

Being the mother of a lone soldier, especially during a time of war is not always easy, but finding comfort in the support groups for parents like me, have been a source of strength. As well as the solidarity vigil I started. Every week, we gather with groups of people or supporters of Israel to show support for one another, and it has been such a helpful and comforting experience.

The most rewarding part of seeing you serve is hearing from you. Whether it's stories about your army friends, updates on your training, or lessons you've learned. Each message from you fills me with so much admiration. You are incredibly brave and I couldn’t be prouder of the man you’ve become. I truly believe you are a hero.

With all my love and pride,

Mom
